Submit Your Abstracts for ACS Fall 2024 by April 1!
Abstract submissions for ACS Fall 2024 are now open! The meeting, titled “Elevating Chemistry”, will take place on August 18-22, 2024 in Denver, Colorado. Abstracts will be accepted until April 1, 2024 and acceptance notices will be sent out the following month.

Our Awards Committee is happy to announce a second new early career award for 2024! The DBC Young Investigator award will recognize the high-achieving early career trainees that are performing mentored research in biochemistry or chemical biology in a DBC member’s laboratory.

The Awards Committee is happy to receive the names of DBC members as prospective nominees for recognition as a 2024 ACS Fellow. Nominations for the 2024 Class of Fellows will be open from February 1 to April 1, 2024.
Leonardo Betancurt Receives the 2024 Founders Award
Leonardo (Leo) Betancurt is the recipient of the 2024 Founders Award. He is a Ph.D. Candidate jointly researching with Kelly Zatopek’s lab at New England Biolabs and Ludovic Sauguet’s lab at Institut Pasteur and gave his talk, “Proofreading mechanism for family D DNA polymerases” at the 2024 Enzyme Mechanisms Conference in Naples, FL.

Our Awards Committee is happy to announce a new early career award for 2024! The DBC Undergraduate Student Award will recognize the highest-achieving undergraduate senior majoring in biochemistry or chemical biology or a related field, nominated by your ACS-accredited Department of Chemistry or Biochemistry. All awardees will receive a certificate and one-year divisional membership in the DBC!
Make a Nomination for the ACS Infectious Diseases Young Investigator Award!
Make a nomination! The ACS Infectious Diseases Young Investigator Award is a collaboration between ACS Infectious Diseases and the ACS Division of Biological Chemistry recognizing three outstanding young investigators in the field of infectious disease research. The deadline for 2024 nominations is December 7, 2023.
Richard Silverman Receives the 2024 Abeles and Jencks Award for the Chemistry of Biological Processes
Professor Richard B. Silverman of Northwestern University is the recipient of the 2024 Abeles and Jencks Award for the Chemistry of Biological Processes. His first publication with Dr. Abeles (“Inactivation of Pyridoxal Phosphate-Dependent Enzymes by Mono- and Polyhaloalanines”) set the stage for a truly distinguished career and a body of work that showed how mechanistic enzymology could be used to develop a drug by unravelling the fine details of the inactivation process and using these findings to make efficient and specific inactivators.
Joseph Cotruvo, Jr. Receives the 2024 Eli Lilly Award in Biological Chemistry
Prof. Joseph Cotruvo, Jr. of the Pennsylvania State University is the recipient of the 2024 Eli Lilly Award in Biological Chemistry. Prof. Cotruvo is being recognized for his seminal discoveries in the area of the f-block, rare earth element (REE) sensing and biology. His group has described fundamental features of REE coordination chemistry by proteins, and their role in microorganisms.
Craig M. Crews Receives the 2023 Bristol Myers Squibb Award in Enzyme Chemistry
Professor Craig M. Crews, John C. Malone Professor of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology at Yale University is the recipient of the 2023 Bristol Myers Squibb Award in Enzyme Chemistry. He also holds joint appointments in the departments of Chemistry and Pharmacology and is the Executive Director of the Yale Center for Molecular Discovery.
Marty Bollinger Receives the 2023 Abeles and Jencks Award for the Chemistry of Biological Processes
Professor Marty Bollinger, Russell and Mildred Marker Professor of Natural Products Chemistry and Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Penn State University is the recipient of the 2023 Abeles and Jencks Award for the Chemistry of Biological Processes.
Dr. Bryan Dickinson Wins the 2022 ACS Chemical Biology Young Investigator Award
The ACS Chemical Biology Young Investigator Award honors the contributions of an early-career individual who is doing outstanding work in chemical biology. The first winner of this annual award, Dr. Bryan Dickinson from The University of Chicago, will present the ACS Chemical Biology Young Investigator Lecture during the ACS Spring 2023 Meeting & Exposition March 26 – 30 in Indianapolis, IN.
2022 Abeles and Jencks Award Winner Karen Allen With Her Award Medal!
The very first Abeles and Jencks Award for the Chemistry of Biological Processes was awarded to Prof. Karen Allen, and she gave her award address at the Fall 2022 ACS meeting in Chicago; however, her medal was still being made at that time! The beautiful medal has now been delivered to the awardee!
